Official Meeting Post and Toys Ride, etc.....

SEMass NEMBA will be holding it's next Chapter meeting on Tuesday, November 19th, at 7pm, in Easton. Message or email me for exact location. ( Non-publicly posted location is Rich Higgins house in Easton, 11 Flyaway Pond Drive, N. Easton)

We will be discussing plans for the upcoming year and talking all-things bikes and trails. Meetings are casual and we'll have pizza and beverages (bring beer or your favorite beverage if you want).

There will be a crew going out before the meeting, at 5:15, to ride Borderland, which is a few minutes ride from the meeting location. You will need lights

Also, there will be a Toys Ride in Blue Hills December 8. Originally set for the 1st, but Freetown will be having their toys ride on the 1st. I am waiting for the official DCR flyer, but maybe we should have our own? Anyone wanna blast out a fun poster? Tom Bender at DCR said he would make one, but he's stretched real thin these days. We were spoiled by Maggi Brown in the Blue Hills doing all the PR for our events. Now she's working out of a van checking gates and kiosks.....

Another note: Danno offered up his shop for a meeting--since Rich had already planned on it I had another idea that Dan thought was good--a Winter Warmer at his shop! Some Sunday in January, invite members, have some light vittles and/or potluck, ride if it makes sense....
Malcolm Neilson also offered up his posh clubhouse in Quincy, complete with pool table, TV's and FAT chairs and sofas....and said that they now allow alcohol.....Maybe do another WW there, in Feb?
Two different geo locations, maybe attract some more help into the fray?

Singletracks Chapter Update Deadline is this Thursday, so if any news, photos, rides, etc send em to me! Also they are always looking for literature--got a poem, story, antidote? send it to PK!

Oh yeah, and thanks, kids, for all you do out there on the trails! We've had an awesome year!

Wompatuck Trail Work Sunday 8/4 8:30AM

Hello fellow mountain bikers of Wompatuck! Our next trail care day will be this Sunday 08/04 working to prepare the Landmine Mountain Bike race course. Held on 09/08, the Landmine is the primary fundraiser for Friends of Wompatuck and projects within Wompatuck State Park, which has been held annually for a number of years. We'll be brushing back trails and clearing debris, clippers and folding saws will be useful, tools will be provided for those who need them. We'd recommend sturdy footwear, bug spray, and gloves. We'll meet around 8:30am in the visitors center parking lot and head to work sites by 9am. Friends of Wompatuck will be providing lunch following our trail work. Hope to see you there!

BLUE HILLS TRAIL-BUILDING!

10:00PM EST BLUE HILLS TRAILWORK IS STILL PLANNED TO GO FORWARD TOMORROW MORNING. SHOWERS WILL NOT STOP OUR PLANS, DRESS ACCORDINGLY. STEADY RAIN CANCELS CHECK HERE FOR UPDATES 1st THING TOMORROW MORNING BIG news at Blue Hills--the Buck Hill Summit Reroute has been officially permitted and we will break ground on the trail Saturday, April 20. If you're not familiar with Buck Hill, it's probably the best summit, offering 360 degree views. Several trails traverse the hill, but the only legal MTB route up has been this straight-up-the-fall-line washed-out gutter that's at most, 300 yards long. The reroute will follow the contours of the hill and total almost a mile! The new sustainable trail is designed for all users. This reroute is unprecedented in the history of Blue Hills Mountain Biking, and could very well influence the future of mountain biking within DCR parks, and beyond. Also, this will mark a renewed partnership with Friends of Blue Hills, who are an integral part of this project. So, become a part of history and come out and help build this trail! Phase One, Saturday April 20th, 8:30 am, at the big Houghton's Pond parking lot on Hillside St, Milton. This coincides with the Annual DCR Park Serve Day, which draws hundreds of volunteers across the state to help their local parks. Phase Two, Sunday,April 28th, same meeting place and time. Both days we will work 'til about noon. Please dress work-and-weather appropriate, considering also that it is tick season again, and bring your favorite trail work tool i.e. loppers, hand saw, rake...if you don't have any tools, thats ok, we will loan you one for the morning. More details to follow, but don't hesitate to ask--Steve Cobble 781-254-8796
